the maids

As Jean Paul Sarte explains, in The Maids "...the real is something melting ... reabsorbed when touched." The production will emphasize the underlying meta-theatrical foundation of Genet's script that plays between appearance and reality where both everything and yet nothing are 'real'. Here every character plays the role of a character who plays a role. What is the logic and 'structure' of power within the games that are played? What is the dynamic nature of the 'ecstasy' of playing transgressive power games? Such issues will be psychophysically explored in the rehearsal process.
